When God Gives You A Dream

Gen 37:5 Now Joseph had a dream and he told it to his brothers, and they hated him still more.

Joseph had a dream in which he and his brothers were doing some field work, binding sheaves in the field. In his dream, Joseph’s sheaf rose up and stood upright. Everyone else’s sheaf stood around and bowed to Joseph’s sheaf. Now Joseph had several dreams and a proven track record of providing the correct interpretation to dreams.

The word of God tells us that Joseph had a dream but the hebrew word for “had a dream” means “to bind firmly” (Strong’s #2492). Joseph became firmly bound up in a dream that God had given him. This dream he had from God was a spiritual experience that was deeply rooted in his heart, never to be forgotten. While it is true that Joseph had a dream, a more accurate way of saying it is that the dream HAD Joseph! The dream was so powerful that it sustained Joseph when he was betrayed by his brothers, sold into slavery, falsely accused of rape and falsely imprisoned for several years for a crime he didn’t commit. God gave Joseph something that would sustain him through a time where it would be easy to question God’s will. Instead of cursing God and doubting His plan, Joseph endured as if He could see Him who is invisible.

When you’re destined for greatness and become excited about the dreams God has given; a typical response from people you know, like and trust is going to be envy and doubt. When God gives you the news, don’t expect those closest to you to believe. Many folks struggle with celebrating you when God reveals His plans for you because they are still confused about who they are and why they have been placed on the earth. But don’t allow their negativity to keep you from boldly moving forward into your God given destiny.
